Status + Notes:

So, yeah, I got a bit hooked on the speedrun thing, and managed to finish it, thus giving me 100% bestiary for the main game. And by finishing it, obviously, I got to Dr. Lugae... but hey, in 3:19. That's way better than my highest expectations. I was figuring I could do it in 5 hours if I tried. Shows what I know. Also, I'm into the interlude now. Certainly a little different playstyle. A little more difficulty and in and out gameplay... what I mean by that is, kill stuff, get as far in as you can, come back out, buy more stuff, get further in, rinse and repeat... Of course there's really only 2 dungeons in the whole game, but whatever.

Want to talk a little more about speedrunning. Its never really been my style, but it is a sizable part of the Final Fantasy community. And why not,  it requires mastery of the game, knowledge of all the game mechanics and glitches to really perfect it. Plus, its fun to watch. You can learn really quickly about the mechanics of a game by watching a speedrun. I've played FF IV probably 7 or 8 times now, and though there's some differences in the PSP version, I got through it pretty easily. The challenge for the speedrun was very high though. Making use of every last piece of gil, making sure to sell off every spare item, using every Spider Silk and Hermes' Sandals. Cursing everytime I got hit by a Chimera's Frost Breath... The worst part was probably the Magnetic Cave, had to use about 6 ethers on Tellah there. Should've brought more potions than I did. Oh well. Also, I should've done the correct thing and solo levelled Cecil on Mt. Ordeals after the class change. Even at level 1 if you have a bow and holy arrows, he can do it, and level VERY quickly. And since most characters join at a level based on Cecil's level... yeah... Speedrunning problems...

So, today will be some lighter gameplay, have a family daytrip planned, but still expect to get further into the Interlude.

  1. You could've even took Cecil to the Power Peninsula! You know about that right? On the world map north of Mt. Ordeals you can kinda wiggle your way around the mountains and get to a peninsula with enemies from around the Troia area.

Pretty tough at first at this point in the game, I was saving between each fight. Once you kill a few groups and gain some levels it evens out. You can get into the 40s pretty quickly. Of course this makes an easy game even easier; Rosa and Rydia will come back with nearly all of their spells learned. The only real drawback is Edge still joins at 25 no matter what. I always have to solo level him in the Cave to Eblan to get him up to speed with the rest of the party, even when I don't power level.
