Day #295 Recap (Final Fantasy IX)

Stuff Did Today: After rescuing Dagger from the depths of Alexandria Castle, we ran into Beatrix, who once gain kicked our collective asses. However, this time Zidane pointed out Dagger knocked out in the corner. Beatrix came around and defied Brahne when she came in. Freya and Steiner joined her in their defense while Zidane, Vivi, and Dagger escaped the castle using the Gargan Roo. Unfortunately it got a little out of control and they ended up at Pinnacle Rocks where Ramuh had us retell a story before allowing Dagger to use him a summon. We're right by Lindblum, which Brahne has decided to bomb the crap out of, she steals Cid's Falcon Claw pendant and leaves. Cid tells us about Kuja, who is a weapons dealer supplying Brahne with the black mages. Brahne sends 2 bounty hunters after the princess. An axe wielding chick named Lani and a Red haired mystery man. We decide to go after Kuja, and locate a secret passage to the Outer Continent near Qu's Marsh called the Fossil Roo, a maze of Gargant tunnels. We run into Lani, but defeat her pretty easily, and then make our way through the maze. We emerge to a land without mist...

Status & Notes: 

Once again on track today, not bad. I really dislike Fossil Roo. First of all, the encounter rate is way up in here... which is always annoying. Second, finding the right spot to summon the gargants is always a small pain in the butt. Anyway, though, that's over with, and now we can head towards the end of Disc 2.

I've stated a few times that this is a game basically built on nostlgia, and we had another very good example of this today. In Pinnacle rocks, the tale we have to compile and retell to Ramuh, is the tale of Joseph from Final Fantasy II!

One of the odder mechanics of the game is the way summoning works in the game. For any of Dagger's damaging summons, the damage is modified by the amount of gems you have in your inventory. Not that this is ever really told to you in game, but that's how it works. Gems are used in other ways for the other summoner we get... we'll talk more about that later.

Alright, goals for today. I'd like to get up to the Iifa tree if possible... which probably puts me at the end of Disc 2 tomorrow... which I think is a pretty good goal... let's see how it goes.
